Analysis of Different Complex Multilayer PACVD Coatings on Nanostructured WC-Co Cemented Carbide

The development of cemented carbides nowadays is aimed at the application and sintering ultrafine nano-sized powders for production a variety components where excellent mechanical properties high wear resistance are required use in temperature corrosive environment conditions. most efficient way increasing tribological along with achieving corrosion coating. Using surface processes (modification and/or coating), it possible to form layer/base material system that can meet modern expectations acceptable costs. Three coating systems were developed on WC substrate addition 10 wt.% Co using plasma-assisted chemical vapor deposition (PACVD) method: single-layer TiN coating, harder multilayer gradient TiCN composed layers, hardest TiBN TiB2. Physical coated uncoated samples investigated by means quantitative depth profile (QDP) analysis, nanoindentation, layer characterization (XRD analysis), adhesion evaluation scratch test. results confirm possibility obtaining nanostructured homogeneous structure without structural defects such as eta phase or unbound carbon providing increase hardness fracture toughness. lowest was detected while coatings complex architecture (TiCN, TiBN) showed improved adhesion.
